Alvin Joseph DeConge Sr., was born on November 22, 1936, in Wickliffe, Louisiana to the union of the late Alphonse DeConge Sr. and Adina Rodney-DeConge.

Alvin graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Baton Rouge in 1956 where he also completed military training in the Reserve Officers Training Corp. He then attended Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge Louisiana where he received a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering.

Alvin was united in Holy Matrimony to Delrine Singleton on June 29, 1963, at the Church of St. Catherine in Leonville, Louisiana.

Soon after marriage Alvin & Delrine moved to Berkeley, California. There he owned and operated DeConge's Masonry alongside his brother Nolan DeConge. Together they built many landmarks in the Bay Area of California Bay that showcase their expertise. These include the iconic Mormon Temple in San Leandro, The San Francisco Opera House, an award winning design of 4 arched entry ways into Nordstrom's department store at Stone Ridge Mall in Pleasanton, California. The addition of the monorail train and rental car center at San Francisco Airport, and all the re-paving brick by brick the famous Lombard Street in San Francisco, CA. Alvin was also on the crew that built the famous right field wall at San Francisco Giants stadium overlooking the water. Alvin was also the lead foreman for the George R. Brown convention center in Houston, Texas. Among most of his accomplished and cherished works were the gratuitous construction projects he did for the church, family and friends. Almost every member of the family has something in their house created and constructed with love by Alvin's hands whether it was a fireplace, barbecue pit, brick garden planters, tile work, and grave headstones.

Alvin was a proud member of the Local and International Bricklayers union in both Texas and California as well as a member of local union chapters where he was active in advancing the craft and sharing his expertise with young apprentices. In addition to Alvin's tangible contributions, he also contributed in ways unseen. He generously spent time constructing memories pouring into the lives of his children, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. He was known as the "fun" dad and "fun" uncle who would pile the kids in the back of the car to go on road trips and fishing adventures. He will affectionately be remembered for his unwavering patience and generous spirit, his love for music and dancing, and acceptance of everyone with love for his family. He was a faithful servant to his Lord Jesus Christ and displayed Christ's love to all.

Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elnora Hutcherson, Albertha Bartholomew, Alphonse II DeConge, Regina Bartholomew, Nolan DeConge, Estelle Neal, Laura DeConge and his beloved son Alvin DeConge Jr.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Delrine Singleton DeConge; his sister Lovenia DeConge Watson; children, Michelle DeConge and husband Jesse Vallejos, Maurice DeConge, Delrine Costenbader and husband Matthew Costenbader; 8 grandchildren, Brittany DeConge Reyland and husband Josh Reyland, Maya DeConge and fiancée Aaron Lamb, Brian DeConge, Aiden Costenbader, Ava Costenbader, Aubrey Costenbader, Shiloh Vallejos and Israel Vallejos.

Alvin was surrounded by his loving wife Delrine DeConge and son Maurice DeConge when he transitioned into the Kingdom of God early Sunday December 15, 2024, at his home in Spring Texas. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
