Alvin Bernard
Edwards
Sep 19, 1956 — Sep 19, 2017
Antioch
Alvin Bernard Edwards passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 after a brave fight with colon cancer. He touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and positive outlook on life.
Alvin was born in San Francisco California and graduated from Balboa High School. He was raised and baptized at his family church of Providence Baptist in San Francisco. After graduating he worked in Yosemite National Park for a short time and came back to San Francisco to be with his lifelong love. In 1979, he and Fareda were united in holy matrimony and remained married until God called him home on September 19, his 61 st birthday. He was a very loving husband, father and friend.
He went on to work for Matson Navigation and had a career with that company that spanned over 36 years. Alvin enjoyed playing dominoes and racing with anyone that was up for the challenge. He loved hats and old school music. He had a mean two-step as he chilled on a Sunday afternoon. He enjoyed sports and you could hear him cheering for the New York Jets, San Francisco Giants, and of course the World Champion Golden State Warriors. During his illness he took up many hobbies to include planting his own fruits and vegetables, traveling the country, and built an avid love for reading. He loved history and enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge of past events in history. If you ever needed a good laugh you could always count on Alvin. He was a strong man of God.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Fareda Edwards of 40 years, devoted children Tamika Duroncelay (Jeff) of New Orleans, Natasha Edwards (Renato) of Sacramento, Tanya Edwards (Donovan) of Sacramento, and Alisia Edwards of Sacramento; grandchildren Jeffrey and Judah Duroncelay, Renato, Anastacia, Ignacio, and Tatiana Monroy, Angel Dawson, and Malisiyana Morris; his sister Milana Edwards of San Francisco and brother Jeffery Edwards (Roberta) of Sacramento; his nephews Willie Edwards and Shawn Cooper, niece Cher Edwards and great niece Jaidyn; a host of cousins, extended family and friends. His charm, infectious smile, and influence will be missed by many.
Friends and Family are invited to a funeral service on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Church on the Rock , 50 Walton Lane in Antioch CA, 94509.
