Anita S. Abalos, of Pittsburg, CA passed away on August 23, 2015. She suffered from a stroke and heart attack. She was born Nov. 22, 1929 to Roman Samson and Peling Lubguban Samson, in Stockton, CA. She leaves behind her daughter, Dana, husband Joel Rojo and daughter Lydia, husband Raul Visaya, 7 grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Francesca and David-Andrew Rojo; Brandon Hapin & wife Joanna, Brianne and Garrett Visaya; 3 great grandchildren: Jaxson Hapin, Kane Koa Vales and Madison Blanchard. She has two additional great grandkids on the way! Anita is also survived by her sisters, Rose Cobalis, of Pittsburg; Ester Hozie, husband James, of Las Vegas; Lorrie Dong of Las Vegas; sister in-law, Teresa Samson, of Oregon and Nellie Myrick of Antioch, CA. Nephews: Fernando and Doug Cobalis; Gary, Derek, Glen, Don Samson, Bobby and Tony Abalos, Jeff and Michael Myrick. Nieces: Toni Cobalis,Vickie Abalos, Janet and Lisa Samson, Christina Molano, Monica, Naomi and Natalie Ulibarri, and Jasmine Dong, also many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
She attended high school at Galileo, San Francisco and graduated from Stockton High School, Stockton, CA. In 1947 she moved to Pittsburg from San Francisco. In July 1948 she married, Federico G. Abalos, (from Pangasinan, Philippines). She worked at Camp Stoneman, the Del Monte Cannery, Pittsburg Unified School District and retired from the City of Pittsburg as a secretary for the Housing and Rehab Dept. She was a long time member of the Filipino American Circle Association, and served as their elected secretary for many years.
She liked playing sports: volleyball, softball, swimming, bowling and tennis. She enjoyed gardening and loved all animals and fish, especially King and Amber, her favorite dogs; Twinkie and Skye, her favorite cats! She would support ARF and other animal causes. She liked to talk to people and people enjoyed their conversations. She liked shoes. She enjoyed going to the movies, shopping on-line and at stores and loved See's Candy. She couldn't pass up a good deal, and she always made sure she got back the correct change. She enjoyed music. George Benson's "Breezin" was a favorite song. She loved Hawaii and Hawaiian music. She went to Hawaii several times with her daughters, and cruises with her sisters. She really enjoyed hearing her son in-law, Joel play the bass and listen to her compare Johnny Rojo when she attended celebrations. She gave "unexpected" :) gifts for birthdays and Christmas.
She was very independent, strong-willed, stubborn at times, a "MacGyver" type of person and a night owl. She liked pies and to bake peach pies. She loved the oranges and peaches picked from her backyard. She believed in God and was a good person. She was strong, brave and courageous in life and while at Kaiser, receiving only "comfort care" for 5 days until she was called to Heaven.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 5:00pm with a vigil at 6:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 10:00am at St. Peter Martyr Church.
