Anita Gallegos Mercurio, 70, beloved mother and grandmother passed away Feb 11, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends. Born Sept 10, 1946 to Melvina (Galli) and Antonio Gallegos, Anita was raised by her grandparents in West Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1964. In 1969, she married Gerome Mercurio and together they raised 5 children. Employed as a hairdresser for over 25 years, she retired from Shear Madness Hair in Pittsburg. Her fondest memories were spent in the summers camping in the Navarro River Redwoods and enjoying the Mendocino coast.
Anita's life will be forever cherished by her daughters, Selena Luis (Mark), Rawnie Thomas (Jermaine), Lareina Mercurio (Kristopher Hernandez), Danielle Mercurio (Rachel), grandchildren, Laurene, Jessica, Alyssa, Jakob, Alexandria, Jack, Lily, Oscar, great grandson, Michael, sisters, Cia Hendrickson (Ed), Millie Gallegos and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerome, son, Jason, sister, Toni, brothers, Herb, Sam and Larry;
A vigil service will be held on Thursday, Feb 23, 2017 at 6:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Friday, Feb 24, 2017 at 10:00am at Our Lady Queen of the World Church in Bay Point. Committal services following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette.
