Arthur Gustav Granberg passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, just 7 days before his 96th birthday. Born April 9, 1916, to Lars and Inga Granberg, Art was raised in Albany and El Cerrito, California, the youngest of eight siblings. His life changed on a summer day in 1935 when he met Alice Vidmar at Neptune Beach in Alameda. They dated for two years and married on October 16, 1937. In 1939 they moved to West Pittsburg when Art was hired on at Dow Chemical where he remained until retirement in 1976. Art served as a medical corpsman at Camp Shoemaker Naval Hospital in Livermore during World War II. Although Art was a homebody, always happy in his garage and yard, Alice and he enjoyed their retirement taking several cruises, vacations in their travel trailer, and participating in bridge games with the Prime Timers potluck group at Pittsburg United Methodist Church. He had a natural talent working with wood and not only built his own home, but made numerous items including cradles, tables, chairs, and toys enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. Art was preceded in death by his wife Alice, son Robert, and three great-granddaughters. He is survived by sons Kenneth (Lee) of Alameda, Wayne (Cynthia) of Fresno, and daughter Elizabeth of Emporia, KS, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons.
