Barbara Ann Middleton passed away after a courageous fight against sepsis and dementia. She was born in Pittsburg, California on August 9, 1938. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ida; her sister Francis, her grandson Nick Middleton and her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Hayne Middleton. Barbara grew up in Bay Point. She attended Ambrose Elementary and graduated from Mt. Diablo High School with the class of 1956. She married Hayne Middleton on December 1, 1956 and eventually settled in the Shore Acres community of Bay Point. Barbara worked as a teacher's aide and a special education interventionist at Shore Acres Elementary.  She obtained her certification in Library Media Services from Contra Costa Community college in the early 1970s and moved on to Riverview Intermediate as a Library Media assistant where she continued to touch the lives of Bay Point's children. Later Barbara made a career move to Los Medanos Community College where she served the faculty and student body as a Technology Specialist. In 1981, while working and raising her family , Barbara completed her Associates Degree in Business from Los Medanos College. She retired in 1999. Barbara is survived by her brother Gerard, son Mitchel and Christie of Rocklin; daughters Roxann Middleton Burns of San Jose; Danette and Juan Maldonado of Houston, TX.  She is survived by her grandchildren, Courtney Middleton, Jordan Burns and Sofia Maldonado.  Barbara was a force in the Bay Point community.  She volunteered for PTA; Ambrose Swim Team; and Pop Warner, Nomad's Football. She was an activist with many Bay Point social and political issues supporting local and state representatives. She was a founding member of the Bay Point Historical Society and served as its secretary and treasurer until her dementia set in.  She was active in her church, Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Church in Bay Point servicing for many years on the Regina Munde Guild. Barbara was also active in her Portuguese community; Luso American Fraternal and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Rainha Santa Isabel. Barbara loved to travel and made at least one annual drive to East Texas every fall until she was 80. Barbara was beloved by her family and friends and will be missed.
Family and friends are invited to a rosary on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 6:00pm. A memorial mass and celebration of Barbara's life will be Friday, February 17, 2023, both days at Our Lady Queen of the World Church, 3155 Winterbrook Drive, Bay Point, Ca 94565. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
