Bettye Jane Allen, age 87, died peacefully at home on January 23, 2025. Bettye was born in Mims, Florida on April 17, 1937, to the late Mary "Willie" Allen Felton and the late Horace Allen. She attended Mims Colored Elementary School. After finishing high school Bettye moved to Tampa, Florida where she met the late William James Allen. They moved to Pittsburg, California in 1954. They were married for almost 70 years.
Bettye was a nurse's assistant for over 30 years before she retired. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg and was active in the Catholic Daughter's Society and Young Ladies Institute (YLI). Both organizations are dedicated to the Christian principles of spiritual growth, charity and service to the church, the community and its members. Bettye served as president of both organizations for a number of years and was honored by both groups.
Bettye loved traveling, watching golf and cheering on the Raiders football team when they were based in Oakland and when they moved to Las Vegas. She was a fantastic cook and baker and will always be remembered for preparing everything from scratch. Bettye also enjoyed sewing.
Bettye is survived by one son, Jeffrey, Sacramento, California; two daughters, Patricia Allen-Jones, Tampa, Florida and Cora Yvonne Kidd, Titusville, Florida; five grandchildren, Faith and Angel, Sacramento, California, Yolanda "Peach" Kidd and Carl Kidd, Titusville, Florida and Aaron Tule, Pittsburg, California; and one great-grandchild, Carleon Lawson, Titusville, Florida; and one sister, Dianne Sweeney, (Dennis) Titusville,
Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, William James Allen, and her daughter Debra both preceded her in death.
