Beverly Dolores Kyriazi passed away early Sunday morning after a brief heart related illness. During her 70 years living in Pittsburg, she has made many lifelong friends, through her work, church, and neighborhood. She is known for her warmth, quick humor, and dedication to her family, friends, work, and church.
Beverly Dolores Johnson was born in Eureka, California to John and Rose Johnson. She was raised in the riverside community of Eel Rock, the second of four children, including Pete, Athena, and Jack (Buzz) Johnson. The family moved to Petaluma, California in the 1930s, and after graduating from Petaluma High School, Beverly received her AA from Santa Rosa Junior College. Her high score in the Civil Service exam earned her a job at the Armory in Benicia, California, where she contributed to the war effort. It was in Benicia that Beverly met Gus Kyriazi, who was born and raised in Benicia. Gus was an aspiring professional baseball player, and as his biggest fan, Beverly attended all his games in Northern California. World War II caused Gus to put his career on hold while serving as a Sergeant in the US Army in France and the South Pacific.
Upon his return from the war, Gus and Beverly settled in Pittsburg, purchasing a new home in West Pittsburg (now Bay Point), where they lived for the rest of their lives. Gus worked 40 years for Dow Chemical, playing fast-pitch softball on their team, and Beverly worked for 25 years as Secretary to the Superintendent for the Pittsburg Unified School District. They had 3 children, Paul, Gary, and Linda.
Gus and Beverly loved to work in their yard, join friends and family for barbecues and potlucks, and to go out dancing. Gus was an avid hunter and fisherman, and Beverly loved to cook, bowl, and to be involved in church and work-related activities. Prior to and past their retirements, they traveled to almost everywhere in the world.
Beverly is most remembered is an "always-there-for-you" friend, ready with soup or a casserole, an ear, a lunch date. She was devoted to her family and nearly anyone who crossed her path. She is survived by her three children: Linda who resides in Los Angeles, Gary, who resides in Arizona, and Paul and his wife Fumiko, and their daughter (Beverly's granddaughter) Mariko, who reside in Tokyo; and her sister Athena of Windsor, California. After 70 years of marriage, Beverly's beloved Gus passed away on July 22, 2013.
Beverly will be missed by all who knew her and remember her smile and warm, giving nature.


Vigil service will be held on Tue. May 17, 2016 at 6:30pm. Funeral liturgy Wed. May 18, 2016 at 10:00am both days at Our Lady Queen of the World Church.
