Obituary

Bill James Webb -- loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin---passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 24, 2023, at the age of 73 in Antioch, California.

Bill was born on October 11, 1949, to the late Herschel and Pearl Webb in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. As the oldest boy of 11, Bill was a hardworking and dedicated man who committed his life to taking care of his wife, children and grandchildren.  His intense storytelling skills and witty sense of humor was always captivating to anyone around him.

Growing up, Bill was a hard worker.  At the age of one, he moved to Oakley, California.  By the time he was nine, he started his first job working on a farm irrigating field. At 13, he met his future wife Penny, in front of Stamm Theater in Antioch.  On September 18, 1966, at the age of 16, he ran off to Reno, Nevada to get married, later to be remarried and baptized in the Pittsburg Greek Orthodox Church.  He began working at the Fibreboard Paper Mill in Antioch, where he had an esteemed career for 38 years, leaving the profession as a foreman.  In 2002, he then took his lifelong passion for fishing and turned it into a successful career in the commercial fishing industry in Half Moon Bay, California.

Fishing for crab, tuna and salmon, his honesty, charisma, and community connectedness resulted in a loyal following and a customer base that still kept in contact with him even after retirement.  He added a special personal touch turning the experience into a family outing for his customers, often waiting in line for his boat to return.   For the holidays, his boat would be loaded with wine, candies, and gifts for Bill and Penny to enjoy.  Every interaction was sincere, and he especially had a kind heart for the kids who got to know him as the "Crabby Crab Man".

Bill is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Lisa Ann Webb, and survived by his family: his wife-Penny; his daughter Christina Hill (Jay), his son, Peter Webb (Staci); his grandchildren- Tanner Hill (Katie), Jenae Hill, Madilynn Webb, Joey Hart, Kendilynn Webb, Titan Webb, Tatum Webb; great grandson, Greyson Hill; his sisters-Noreen, Peggy and Brenda and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, 2295 Railroad Ave, Pittsburg, Ca 94565.
