Bob Svoboda, aged 82, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2023, at home in Antioch, CA. He was born on September 24, 1940, in Cornucopia, Oregon. His Mother brought him to live in Contra Costa County as an infant, and he called the Bay Area home for most of his life. He briefly lived in Whichita, Kansas, as a young man, before returning to the Bay Area.

Bob was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, known for his kindness and gentle nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bob had a green thumb and a true talent for gardening. Plants and flowers flourished under his care, bringing beauty to his surroundings. In addition to gardening, Bob enjoyed playing classical guitar, listening to music, watching classic movies, reading, archery, fishing, and traveling. Bob loved animals, and his cat, Spooky, is missing him so much.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janyce Johnson Svoboda. He was a devoted father to his children, Robert (Tink) Svoboda, Richard Svoboda, and Ruth Svoboda. He was a proud grandfather of 7, and a great grandfather of 3. He is fondly known as Uncle Bob to 6 Nieces and 4 Nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, half-siblings, granddaughter, Megan Svoboda, and his ex-wife Janis Bond Jessup, loving Mother to his three children.

Bob attended schools in Pleasant Hill and Lafayette, and later graduated from high school in Pleasant Hill, CA. Following his education, Bob served in the Navy from 1957 to 1959, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and dedication.

Bob worked in maintenance at Allied/General Chemical in Nichols, CA for 36 years, from 1963 to 1999. He later joined John Crane Seal Repair in Concord in November 1999, until his retirement in June 2006.

A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 1 pm - 4 pm at the Elks Lodge, located at 200 Marina Blvd., Pittsburg, CA 94565. Lunch will be catered by New Mecca Cafe at 1:30 pm. Please RSVP to Janyce Svoboda at janyjanjan@aol.com, text or FB Messenger,

Bob Svoboda will forever be remembered for his kind heart, love for his family, and his passion for gardening. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace and love.
