Obituary

Carmen Mary Roberts went to be with the Lord, her Father and to be reunited with her husband, Herbert Roberts on Friday, September 24, 2021, just two months shy of her 90th birthday. She passed away peacefully surrounded by all of her children and grandchildren. Carmen was born in Colima, Mexico to Jesus and Eloisa Gonzales. She was the third of four children in her family and was raised in Pittsburg from the age of 1. She was a devoted daughter, and took care of her parents every day until their passing. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and achieved her US Citizenship soon thereafter. She was employed by Pacific Bell Telephone Company soon after graduation, where she eventually met the love of her life, Herbert. Soon after marrying, they began their family of three children, Gary, Frances and Jimmy. She began her most important role in life, as stay at home mother, until she started working at Los Medanos Elementary School, until she retired after approximately 30 years.
Following retirement, she continued volunteering at the elementary schools working with children because she valued children receiving a good education. She was a long-time parishioner of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and a member of the Catholic Daughters Association and the Young Women's Institute (YLI). Family was the greatest priority in Carmen's life, including her husband, Herbert, of 60 years at the time of his passing. They were the role models to everyone around them of a happily married couple and dedicated parents. Everyone knew when they saw one of them, they also saw the other. She is survived by her devoted children Gary Roberts, Frances (Jim) Burge and Jimmy (Roma) Roberts; her adoring grandchildren Angela (Scott) Martin, Vincent (Katy) Roberts, Garrett (Laikyn) Roberts, and Devany Roberts; her three beautiful great granddaughters, Stevee, Charlee and Emma Roberts, sisters-in-law Tena Jones, Phyllis (Dennis) Guthrie, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Molly, Raul and Rosie. Carmen loved socializing with people, taking care of her family and attending all important events of her children and grandchildren, including their college graduations and all sporting events. She even traveled with Herb to Oklahoma to attend the college graduations of two of her grandchildren. She later traveled to Oregon to attend her granddaughter's wedding. It was very important to her to create family traditions, and she was happiest when all of her family was together. She was instrumental in teaching her family about life, love and family commitment.
Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial mass service on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3200 Harbor Street, Pittsburg.
