With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Carolyn Maile Awana Martinez.   Carolyn was born on January 11,1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Clement Aukai Awana and Elizabeth Kapuakela Achong.  She was the 4th of 9 children.

Carolyn finished her life's journey on October 6, 2022 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  She is survived by her children Jerome (Sheila) Martinez, Jeremy (Cristina) Martinez, MeiLIn Martinez-Sanchez, Joesph Martinez,  grandchildren Jessika Martinez, Janessa  Martinez, Jarrett Sanchez, Jr., Julia Martinez, Julissa Martinez, Jeralyn Sanchez, Great-Grandchildren Jazelle Ortiz, Jade Nordhausen, Siblings Ed (Kathy) Awana, Marilyn Palma, Lynette (Greg)Childers, Christopher Awana, Bernard Awana and many cousins, nephews, nieces and extended ohana.

Carolyn was known for her beautiful smile, kind personality and passion for hula.  She was the most gracious hula dancer who loved to share her Hawaiian culture with everyone.  She will be missed by her many friends in the Bay Area Hawaiian community and friends from the Antioch and Concord senior centers.  Her smile, spirit and soul will truly be missed by all.
