Obituary

Carolyn Frances Bartlett passed away with her family by her side Tuesday, April 12, 2016 after a long battle with Huntington's Disease. Carolyn has always been loving, caring, and thoughtful with a positive attitude about Huntington's and a willingness to sacrifice herself for research.
Carolyn was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Pittsburg California. She attended St. Peter Martyr School and during this time took dancing and piano lessons and enjoyed playing sports such as softball. While a student at Carondelet High School she was a head pom pom girl, head cheerleader, and homecoming queen and three year Spanish Honor Society. She graduated from Carondelet at the top of her class with honors. She went on to graduate from Diablo Valley College with an Associates degree and then went on to graduate with honors from University of California at San Francisco with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. Upon her graduation at UCSF Carolyn was also awarded the following honors: the
Dental Hygiene Student Research Award and Honored Scholar Award. She worked as a Dental Hygienist in the Bay Area and Southern California, and loved sports, music, dancing, and travel.
In 2009 Carolyn was named the alumnae of the year from Carondelet, and in 2010 was named the Northern California Huntington's Disease person of the year by the Joseph P. Roberson Foundation for her Character, Courage and Commitment while fighting her battle with HD.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father Richard W. Bartlett, and survived by her mother Betty and step-father Keith Gemaehlich. Also surviving are her brother Terry and his wife Linda Bartlett of Antioch, brother Richard Bartlett of Pittsburg, nephews Richard and wife Erica Bartlett of Texas and Jake Bartlett of Antioch, nieces Shannon Bartlett of Antioch and Chelsea Bartlett of Pittsburg. Two great nephews and one great niece Kayden, Emma and Alexander Bartlett of Texas, and her faithful poodle Bailey.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Huntington's Clinic at UC Davis, headed by Dr. Wheelock, Terry Tempkin and the rest of the team. We cannot thank you enough for the tireless hours you put into maintaining such a successful clinic for the health and well being of your patients.
To the UC Davis Stem Cell team, headed by Dr. Jan Neita, you have made such great strides in making a cure a reality for this disease. What has been accomplished is phenomenal, and all those affected look forward to the day when this disease is a thing of the past.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10:30am at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church.
