Cecil Mays passed away on the afternoon of May 23, 2022. He suffered from Alzheimer's/Dementia and was residing at Angel's Love RCFE in Pittsburg at the time of his passing. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Frances Mays, his parents Bert Thomas and Mattie Mays, his brothers James, Raymond, Bert Thomas Jr., Clifford, sisters Georgia, Lessie, granddaughter Whitney Marie Mays.
Cecil was born in Non, Oklahoma on April 2, 1933 to parents Bert Thomas and Mattie Mays. He left Oklahoma with his family heading West and arrived in Antioch, CA in 1941. He entered public schools and graduated from Antioch High School in 1951. Cecil joined the US Navy in 1952 and was assigned to the USS Begor, APD 127 as a radio operator. He was stationed at Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. Cecil left the Navy and returned to the Pittsburg/Antioch area where he met and married the love of his life Frances Rose Lamendola (Mays). Together they raised two sons Mark and Greg Mays.
Cecil was a well known and well liked member of the Pittsburg and Antioch communities. He was a local businessman (Barber) in Antioch owning several barber shops during his career. He also worked as a police dispatcher for Antioch P.D. for 13 years while continuing to cut hair. Cecil was a sports fanatic following his sons games wherever and whenever they played. This continued right through and granddaughter and grandsons games. Cecil was a big fan of the SF Giants, SF Forty Niners, and Golden State Warriors.
Cecil is survived by his sons Mark (Donna) and Greg (Laura), five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, plus a number of other loving relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank those who have sent cards and condolences. A memorial mass for Cecil will be held October 6, 2022 at 10:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Alzheimer's Association and/or Hospice Foundation of America.
