Clementina Metz passed away on Monday after a short illness. She touched many lives with her strong spirit and loving personality, with a gift for making everyone she met feel special. Clementina was born in Lambeth, England, to Frank and Clementina Luff. She served in the Royal Marines/Navy during World War II as a navel wren doing deciphering work to help defeat the
Germans. After the war, she became a professional seamstress at Liberties in London. During this time, in 1948, she met the love of her life, Arthur Metz, to whom she was married until his death in 2001. In 1958, they moved to the United States, along with their two daughters, Suzette and Francesca.
Shortly after arriving, they welcomed her first son, Frank, and five years later, another son, Joseph.
Clementina loved being a mother and always made sure her children had the best, even making all their Halloween costumes from scratch. She was an avid flee marketer, buying and selling for over 40 years, and loved to collect antiques. She was also well known for going all out with her Christmas decorating every year.
Clementina is survived by three of her children, Francesca Metz of Pittsburg, Frank Metz (Leila) of Corning, CA, and Joseph Metz (Andrea) of Benicia and grandchildren, Phillip (May) Metz and Crystal (Justin) Ward of Corning, CA, Jessica and Melissa Metz of Benicia, CPL Nikolas Patzer of Edwards AFB, Lindsay Olson of Benicia and great-grandchildren, Blake and Wyatt Ward of Corning, CA. Her infectious personality will be missed by all who met her during her lifetime.
Friends and Family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 12:00pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Gravesite service immediately following at 1:00pm at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Antioch.
