Conrado C. Castillo passed away on Sunday after a long and valiant battle with several challenges to his health. He touched many lives with his gentle spirit and positive outlook on life. Conrado was born in Fort Mills, Corregidor, Philippines. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science Engineering from the Philippine Nautical School (now the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy). He was trained in Port Security & Law Enforcement in the U.S. Coast Guard in Yorktown, Virginia, and in National Search & Rescue in the U.S. Coast Guard SAR School, Governor's Island, New York. He served in the Philippine Navy for 20 years as a Naval Inspector, Coast Guard Inspector General and Operations Officer, and as the Commanding Officer of an LST, Freight Ship, Patrol Gun Boat, and Auxiliary Repair Ship. Conrado rose to the rank of Commander and retired with the rank of Captain. After retiring from the Philippine Navy, Conrado enjoyed a 10-year career as a Master Mariner, and a Tractor Tug Master for private shipping companies in Hamburg, Germany, Breskens, Holland, Tokyo, Japan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Tripoli, Libya, Adelaide, Australia, and Ireland during which he traveled to many ports around the world. Conrado immigrated to the United States in 1987 and became a citizen in 1993. He belonged to the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg, California where he actively served in several ministries and the Knights of Columbus.Conrado is survived by his loving wife Eugenia, devoted children Amalia Broadbent of Concord, Albert Castillo (Maria Isabel Estalilla) of Indiana, Andrei Castillo (Blesida Visaya) of Los Angeles, Alfred Castillo, Aida Aquino (Nelson Versoza) of the Philippines, and Adi Adrian Castillo of Pittsburg, and grandchildren Charles Noel Broadbent of Concord, Chandra Noel Broadbent Caballero (Christopher Caballero) of San Jose, Catherine Ann Castillo of the Philippines, Mary Christine Castillo, Sarah Denise Castillo, and Patrick Gabriel Castillo of Pittsburg, Jenna Custodio of Los Angeles, Maria Victoria Castillo, Maria Theresa Aquino, Neil Joshua Versoza, and Angel Paulette Versoza of the Philippines. He is also survived by his sister Ceferina Gonzales of the Philippines, and his brother Dr. Enrique Castillo of Fremont, California. Conrado's great grandchildren are Christian Michael Conrado Caballero, and Deron Emberga.Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 4pm with a vigil at 7pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
