Virginia Devens passed away on Monday following the long term complications of a stroke in 2009, from which she never completely recovered. She was known for her sincere kindness and her loving spirit which she shared with everyone she met. Virginia was born in Los Angeles, CA. She graduated from Berkeley High School and earned a degree in Zoology from the University of California-Berkeley. She went on to work as a teacher
and touched the lives of many students, many of whom had special needs or spoke English as a second language. Most of her teaching career was spent in Brentwood, CA. She traveled to Turkey with her husband and returned to live there after his death. She taught at Tarsus American School (a private high school) for several years. She also had the opportunity to go on safari in Kenya and she gained many new experiences during her world travels. After returning to the United States she spent time as a devoted grandmother and an active member of her local church. In her free time she enjoyed reading, gardening, volunteering at church and spending time with those she loved.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Alva (Al), sisters, Charlotte and Grace Irving, and brother, William (Bill). She is survived by her devoted children Robert Devens, William Lee Devens and Virginia Devens Karul and grandchildren, Sara Nelson, Audra Smanski, Laura Devens, Aric Devens, Neslihan Brown, Alper Karul and Nilufer Karul. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Crowe and sister, Doris Greaves. She was the epitome of selflessness, benevolence and humility. Her kind and generous way will be remembered by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Virginia's life Monday, June 7, 2021, for visitation from 10am to 11:30am with a service at 11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Burial following at Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery in Antioch.
