Danny Clifton Guyse was born on February 2, 1937 to the proud parents Henry Clay Guyse and Ora Jean Moffett in Forest, Mississippi.
Danny grew up and spent his grade school years in Forest, Mississippi before relocating to Pittsburg, California during his adolescence years. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1955. After high school Danny was one of nine, All County Grid Stars, from Pittsburg who was selected to play football at Diablo Valley College.
He worked as a Journeyman Cement Mason for over 40 years. Danny was a member of Local Union #825 in Pittsburg, California. He was a member of the Pittsburg Elks Lodge #1474. Dan was a long-standing faithful parishioner of Church of the Good Shepherd.
Dan was a die-hard Raiders fan and a lifelong season ticket holder. He was Pittsburg proud and supported local sports. In the early 70's and 80's he spent his free time as a JFL coach. He was an avid supporter of the Pittsburg Pirates Football Boosters for over 20 years and volunteered countless hours with the boys. He served many years on the Pittsburg Pirates Football Hall of Fame committee. Dan held the Pittsburg Pirates football team very near and dear to his heart and he rarely missed a game. In 2008, Dan was proudly inducted into the Pittsburg Pirates Football Hall of Fame.
Danny loved jazz music, especially that of Miles Davis. He often attended jazz festivals and concerts. He had a passion for vintage cars and cherished his silver and black 1956 Chevy Bel Air which he personally restored. Dan loved to breed dogs and specialized in Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, German Sheppard's and Doberman Pinchers. If you were ever looking for Danny, you could always find him downtown inside the Mecca sitting at the counter.
Dan had a lifelong friendship spanning over 60 years with Joseph "Hotdog" Viscuso. The two often could be found sharing a laugh, a story or enjoying a jazz concert together.
Dan passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay Guyse and Ora Jean Moffett, beloved daughter, Audrey S. Guyse-Green and beloved son, Danny Guyse, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughters, Juliet Atkins (Vernon) and Marisa Guyse-Harris (Maurice); grandchildren Ronnie Green, Jr. (Kamika), Andre Atkins, Leya Atkins, Verjai Atkins, Vernon Atkins, Jr., Brooklynn Harris and Danny Coleman; great-grandchildren Ronnie Green III, Alonzo Green, Kyla Green, Kimora Green, Jameya Atkins, Averie Atkins, Camden Atkins, Giana Atkins, godson Derrick Kelly as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a service at 6:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 10:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch.
