Debra Christine
Waters
Jan 3, 1953 — Jun 27, 2026
Debra Christine Waters, "Lezy Anderson," 73, of Antioch, California, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by family.
Debra was born January 3, 1953, in Oakland, California, a daughter of Kathleen and Mervin Baker. She was raised in Antioch, California, by her parents, Kathleen and Dave Anderson, where she flourished throughout junior high and high school. She had a warm, sweet nature, and was deeply loved by her large circle of family and friends, who she loved equally. A devoted cheerleader, she cherished every moment of it. From there she went on to attend Brigham Young University.
In 1975, she married and moved to Västerås, Sweden. She enrolled in Swedish language classes and excelled, finishing at the top of her class. In Västerås, she welcomed her daughter Johanna who became the cornerstone of her life, and forged lasting friendships that enriched her years abroad. After divorce Debra studied at the world-renowned Karolinska Hospital to become a registered ophthalmic nurse. After her years in Sweden, she returned home to Antioch, California.
Almost immediately, she met her husband, Bill. They were introduced through bocce ball, a sport they would go on to play together for years to come. From first date they clicked, remaining inseparable for the 38 years they shared together. They shared a deep connection, often spending hours talking together. Debra began a career at Diablo Valley Eye Center, where she remained for most of her working life.
She loved her pets, including her cat Kittra and her dachshund Silky. She had a passion for meeting and talking to people, and uniquely creative talent in styling clothes that she maintained throughout her life. She had a true gift for drawing and a deep passion for photography. She lived her life, giving unconditional love to all living things around her.
Debra is survived by her husband, Bill Waters; her children, Johanna Gustafsson, Kevin Morgan, Sherri (Troy) Cyr, and Sean Waters; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Mark (Cindy) Bradshaw, Laura (Fred) Crandall, Carl (Maria) Anderson, Gayle Wolskey, Dirk Baker, and Brian Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Miles. Debra was also preceded in death by grandparents Viola and Carl Anderson and Carleen Jackson who impacted her markedly.
In keeping with her spirit, Debra wished for no funeral service. Instead, she asked that those who loved her gather to enjoy the evening and each other, share stories, and remember her with smiles and laughter. Lezy loved to plan a party. Details of the celebration will be announced soon.
