Pittsburg
Deirdre Cronan Zigler, 55, passed away on October 3, 2020 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek after a courageous 15-year battle with breast cancer.
Deirdre was born on July 28, 1965 in Pittsburg, California to John and Angelita Cronan. A beloved sister, auntie, cousin and friend, Deirdre was a force and bright light to all who knew her. She was beautiful inside and out, had an infectious smile, was whip-smart and gave the best hugs. She had boundless energy and optimism which helped her in her battle with cancer.
She was active in her school and local community growing up. She went to Pittsburg High School where she was a varsity cheerleader, in the drama club and student government. She was also on the Buchanan Swim Club and in the Youth Choir at The Church of the Good Shepard. Proud of her Filipino heritage, she was an active member and Treasurer of the Fil-American Association in Pittsburg for many years.
Deirdre was a long-time employee of the City of Concord until she began work at Longs Drugs Corporate where she met and fell in love with her husband Mark. She actively participated in the causes that were so meaningful to her such as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay for Life. It was a rare occasion when she missed a Breast Cancer Awareness baseball game.
Deirdre was a loyal Oakland A's fan! She and her husband Mark loved baseball and once embarked on national tour of baseball stadiums and hall of fames. She remained curious and had a love of adventure. She had many interests and was able to find joy in the simplest pleasures. She loved traveling, karaoke, crossword puzzles, drawing, sewing, crocheting, the arts, concerts and spending quality time with family and friends. Her love of connecting with people inspired her to participate in the 2010 Census where she was a recruiting assistant. She was also an avid Ancestry.com sleuth where she learned more about her and her husband's heritage and was very happy to be able to connect with many extended relatives.
Deirdre is survived by her devoted and loving husband Mark Zigler of Concord, her sisters Erin Cronan and Arlene Cronan of Pittsburg, brothers Michael Cronan of Pittsburg, Daniel Cronan of Antioch, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Angelita Cronan.
