Obituary

Derrick "Coach D" Moore hung up his whistle and his #5 jersey gained its wings on October 23, 2023. Derrick was born 12/10/75 in Baton Rouge, LA, before moving to the greater Bay Area, when his family relocated as a young teen. Since then, basketball was his life. Derrick's lively, charismatic personality, and love for basketball and life were known to all that knew him.

He attended Mc Clymond's High school and graduated in 1993. He left his mark at Franklin Recreation Center in Oakland, where he worked as a rec leader and started coaching the kids. He also attended some classes and played a little football at Laney College, when he met Angie Rivas in 1997. When his first born was on the way, Derrick decided he needed a master plan and career to provide for his family and attended Wyotech to learn about HVAC. He graduated when his 2nd son Xavier was born and became a well-known and respected HVAC engineer and journeyman.

He was a coach at to several high schools and AAU teams. Affectionately known as Coach D, all the kids loved him, he impacted many lives and gave himself freely. He was man of integrity and values, he encouraged players to value friendship, respect others, contributions and go hard for what you want in life. Derrick valued teamwork and accountability. His commitment and love for his family and community will forever be missed. May he Rest in Peace.

Derrick leaves behind his partner and soulmate of 27 years, Angie Rivas, two sons Ayindé and Xavier Moore and his daughter Marley Moore.
