Dimitri Mantalvanos, 70, departed this life on April 23, 2021 in Walnut Creek , CA with both his daughter's by his side.

Dimitri was born in Athens, Greece on February 6, 1951 to Dimosthenis and Anna Manatalvanos. He arrived to the Bay area on March 2, 1967 with his parents and siblings. Ourania and Antonios. As a young man Dimitri loved soccer and played for the San Francisco soccer team Hellas for many years. He was always an avid sports fan, and as long as we can remember, you would find him rooting for the San Francisco 49ers and Giants.

In 1975 he graduated from San Francisco State University with a Business Degree.

At a young age Dimitri used to work at his father's garage in Athens. He seemed to enjoy getting dirty, always covered in oil to show how hard he worked. As an adult he continued working along side his dad in the mechanic shop of the family gas station where he honed his skills. His career began when he opened his own gas station and mechanic shop and later began working for the East Bay Regional Park District as a mechanic. During his time with the Park District he also served as an Industrial Firefighter. In 1993 he began working as a mechanic on the school buses for the Antioch School District, and retired after 20 years of service.

Dimitri always loved the outdoors and most weekends you would find him on his boat on the Delta, fishing, camping and enjoying time on the water. During retirement he also took on the hobby of raising honeybees.

He was a loving father and raised two beautiful daughters, Sophianna and Dimitra. In 2019, Dimitri was ecstatic to welcome his first grand child, Athena. He spent much of the past two years enjoying his time as a pappou.

Dimitri took every opportunity to travel back to Greece and particularly enjoyed visiting the island of Kefalonia and his father's village of Anninata.

Dimitri is survived by his partner of 14 years, Maria Tsaklanos, his daughter Sophianna and her husband Spyros, his daughter Dimitra and her fiance Nick, his sister Ourania and her husband Gary, his brother Antonios, his mother Anna, and his grand daughter Athena. Dimitri was preceded in death by his father.

He was a kind man that always had a smile and joke to share. He will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 29, 2020 form 12:30-3:30pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, 2295 Railroad Avenue, Pittsburg CA 94565, 925-432-2114.
