Obituary

Don passed away peacefully on Saturday in Walnut Creek after complications from surgery.
Don was born in Graham, Kentucky and moved to California when he was 8 years old where he graduated from Richmond High School in 1957. He worked at Public Works Center San Francisco Bay, where he prestigiously advanced over the 35 years of service from pipefitter and retired as Director of Northern California's Housing Department for military families. His hobbies included wood-working and he lovingly built several pieces of beautiful wooden furniture for his wife, son, and grand-daughter; he enjoyed amateur radio and made a lot of friends world-wide; he renovated his homes throughout the years; and fixed radios, televisions and whatever needed to be repaired around the house.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Virginia "Hooty"; son, Donald Jr., daughter-in-law, Rosa and grand-daughter Haley of Elk Grove; brother, David of Southern CA; sisters, Gail and Ann of Northern CA; sister-in-law, Judy Dean and husband, Dave of Oregon; brother-in-law, Ray Herrin of Long Beach; and many nieces, nephews and extensive family. Don will also be deeply missed by his loyal and trusted companion, Corby.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; mother and father, Hershel and Inez Rose; sister, Betty-Sue; mother-in-law, Beatrice "Sonny" Brooks; father-in-law, Robert Herrin; sister-in-law, Bertha "Boots" Mannerino and husband, Tom; and brother-in-law, Robert Herrin Jr.

Don lived a great life and will be fondly remembered and missed by his loving family and friends. Following Don's wishes, services will not be held.
