Elizabeth (Betty) Pettas passed away on Tuesday after bravely battling multiple illnesses over the last several years. She touched many lives of both family and friends, all of whom she considered to be her "sweethearts."
Betty was born in Antioch, CA and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1955. She resided in Pittsburg her entire life and retired from Union Carbide after a career there that spanned over 30 years. In 1972, she married Demetrios (Jimmy) Pettas and had wedding ceremonies both locally and in his homeland of Zakynthos, Greece. She was very proud of both her Italian and Greek heritages and the family members that were part of them.
Betty is survived by her loving brother, Andrew Riva, and devoted sisters-in-law, Darlene and Sandy Riva, all of Brentwood. She is also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Pettas; her brother, Celeste Riva; and her parents, Frank Riva and Caroline Riva Nicolosi. The love and support she shared with her family and friends was unconditional and one-of-a-kind. She occupies a special spot in all of our hearts that can never be replaced.
Family and friends are invited to a Trisagion on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at 7pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel and a funeral service on Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 at 11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1955 Kirker Pass Road in Concord. Burial to follow at Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and St. Peter Martyr School are requested by the family.
