Elsie M. Erickson "Sandy," 76, passed away at home in Bethel Island on Thursday, September 7, 2017. She leaves her husband of 27, years, Grant; sons Stephen, Mark and Johnny McConnell: as well as seven grandchildren. Sandy was preceded in death by her daughter Connie.
Sandy, born Elsie Moria O'Neill in Edinburg, Scotland on January 29, 1941 to William and Catherine O'Neill. Sandy spent her early years growing up on her grandparent's farm in Cawdor, Scotland which is situated in the Scottish Highlands. As a young adult she traveled extensively and relocated to the United States. She was a California resident the majority of her adult life; primarily living in and around Antioch before eventually settling in Bethel Island with her husband Grant.
Sandy loved her family very much and worked hard all her life and did the best she could, given the resources she had. You couldn't help but love her feistiness, which was surely connected to her stubborn and ornery Scottish ancestry. Sandy was small in stature, but had a huge heart and was always willing to give herself for others. Known by many in Bethel Island as the Bethel Island White Tornado as well as the Energizer Bunny to her family, Sandy often volunteered her time and energy for the betterment of others.
She had an affinity for cats and dogs and her favorites were a Seal Point Himalayan named Brandy and a Lhaso Apso/Shitsu mix named Duster.
A private memorial service for family members will be held at a future date.
