Emma Lou Johnson was born on April 8, 1937, in Ruston, Louisiana, to the loving union of the late Essie and John Hill. In 1955, she met and married Clinnit Johnson in Oak Ridge, Louisiana. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Jonnie (deceased), Jimmie (deceased), Janet, and Vernon.
On February 27, 2026, Emma Lou peacefully entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie and John Hill; her ex-husband, Clinnit Johnson; her sons, Johnnie and Jimmie; her grandson, Demitris; and her siblings, Alonzo, Eddie, Johnnie, Louis, Pearlee and Lonnie D.
Emma Lou attended school in Ruston, Louisiana, where she excelled academically and built lifelong friends. Emma Lou was a member of Second Baptist Church in Pittsburg. She worked at a local convalescent home in Concord, CA, where she cared deeply for the residents she served. Whether it was her infectious laughter, her caring nature, or her ability to turn any moment into a cherished memory, she was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Emma Lou was a woman of many passions. She found joy in spending time with her family and friends. Emma enjoyed cooking for her loved ones. More than anything, Emma Lou was devoted to her family. She cherished her relationships and was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support to those who needed her.
Emma Lou's legacy will live on through her loving children, Janet and Vernon; her grandchildren, Jossie and Latoya; and great-grandchildren, Thaliyah, Tania, Tatiana, Daniel, and Jeremiah. She is also lovingly remembered by her longtime companion, Emmit Jiles, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her example. We will forever carry her in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 10:00 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Concord.
