Evelyn
Siino
Dec 6, 1931 — Oct 11, 2021
Pittsburg
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89. She was the matriarch of our family and welcomed everyone to the table.
Sissy was born in Pittsburg, CA in the Central Hotel, on Railroad Ave, owned by her grandparents. She was the second of four daughters born to Etta and Louis Boyton. She attended Pittsburg High School and graduated (a "49er") in 1949. She loved growing up in Pittsburg and enjoyed lifelong friendships.
Sissy married the love of her life, Sal Siino, in 1955 and had four children. Life was full of family and football, as Sal coached, and everyone attended games at Pacifica and Antioch High School. Sissy kept busy with her children, but also stayed in shape by exercising with Jack LaLanne and playing volleyball with friends. As her children got older, she began working outside the home as a teacher's aide in elementary schools and Pittsburg High School. She did not go to college, but valued education and loved helping kids to read. Sadly, Sal passed away in 1981 and Sissy carried on by surrounding herself with family and friends. She enjoyed taking family vacations to Tahoe, Cayucos and Hawaii and cherished the time with her grandchildren. Holidays were very special times with extended family, and she kept up the Italian tradition of making homemade raviolis for Christmas dinner. She was an avid bocce ball player and hated to lose!
She struggled with dementia in recent years, but never lost her spirit and loving kindness. People loved being around her: family, friends, neighbors and caregivers and she was grateful to all who took care of her. We will all hold her in our hearts.
Sissy is preceded in death by her husband, Sal, her parents Etta and Louis, and her sister Helen. She is survived by her children JoAnn Hobbs (Dave), Sally Siino (Steve), Jen Whitney (Will) and Jeff Siino (Shauna). Grandchildren: Kate Whitney, Stephen Hobbs, Aaron Hobbs, Nicole Scotto (Nick), Hilary Garibay (Josh) and Cole Watts. Sisters: Shirley Meyer (Richard) and Toni Mason (Gary). Brother-in-law, Joe Siino (Sheila) and many nieces, nephews.
