Fernanda "Fern" passed through this life to be with the Lord at home surrounded by her family 3 weeks before her 97th birthday. She was born Fernanda Sanchez on Feb 2, 1918 in Globe, AZ to Carmen Marin and Tomas Sanchez. The youngest of 9 children, she was raised in Mexico City by her aunt Delfina Sanchez. She met her husband to be Carlos C. Tellez on May 1, 1943. They married in Mexico City on her birthday in 1947. They would have been married 68 years.
In 1954 they moved to Pittsburg, CA and raised 5 children. While raising her children she worked as a nursing assistant at several convalescent homes where she exceeded in providing innovative therapeutic patient care.
Fern had a zest for life and all it had to offer. She was a true family person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, dancing and playing cards.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings and son, Carlos F. Tellez. She will be missed by her loving husband Carlos, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter, extended family and friends.
God blessed Fern with a loving heart and spirit. We, her family, are so proud to say that this beautiful soul is our mother. We will think of you "dancing in heaven with the angels".
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 5:00pm with a vigil at 7:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:30 at St. Ignatius of Antioch. Committal services following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the East Bay or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
