Flora Coan was born November 24, 1937. She passed away in her home August 28, 2025. She was a native of California and she attended school at Liberty High School in Brentwood. She lived her adult life in Antioch. For years, she worked at the Antioch Cannery and the Salvation Army in Antioch, California.
Flora was a very loved mother, grandmother (Nana), great grandmother, and great great grandmother as well as sister, friend, and "the fun auntie". She loved spending time with her family and especially loved her dogs. She loved watching Price is Right, collecting antiques and was also well known in the bingo circles!
Flora is survived by her children: Charlie Coan, Kathy Foster, and Patty Coan. Her grandchildren: Tony Garcia, Jason Garcia (wife Leslie Garcia), Justin Foster, Donna Ballardo (husband Bryan Ballardo), Gabriel Coan (wife Monika Garcia), Carlos Fitzpatrick (husband John Fitzpatrick), Michele Navarro (husband Antonio Nunez), Gilbert Navarro, Ricky Navarro Jr. (wife Nikki Navarro). She has many Great Grandchildren: Andreana Koller, Quentin Anthony Garcia (her caretaker), Raymond Garcia, Gabriel Ballardo, Alyssa Ballardo, Isabella Garcia, Gabriella Garcia, Ariella Garcia, Gilbert Gabriel Navarro Jr., Vicente Enrique Navarro, Marcelo Jose de Jesus Navarro, Cheyenne Navarro, Brandon Jacobs, Alexis Navarro, Isaiah Navarro, Leticia Navarro, Felicia Navarro, Elizabeth Nunez,Selena Nunez. She also has 17 great-great grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters; Bonifacio Ruiz, Carmen Baes, Norbert Ruiz, Helen Mendoza, Robert Melendez, Joe Melendez, Julia Bellah, Rosemary Tiscareno, Tony Melendez, and Marylou Melendez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosenda and Antonio Melendez, her daughter Patty Coan and grandson, Tony Garcia.
Gathering with family and friends will be held on September 18, 2025 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm with a memorial service following at 3:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Please be ready to share a story whether it is on the podium or in your pew with loved ones.
