Frances (Fay) Guardino was born in San Francisco on July 21, 1928, to Salvatore and Francesca (Maniscalco) Guardino. Salvatore, a Sicilian immigrant, operated a fish market at Fisherman's Wharf. The youngest of seven children, Fay grew up in North Beach, graduated from Galileo High School in 1946 and received her BA in History from UC Berkeley in 1950.
In 1952, she married Filadelfo Lanzafame (Delfo) at SS. Peter and Paul Church and moved to Pittsburg, CA where Delfo was a partner in Lanzafame Furniture Co. She raised two children and until recently co-owned the business with her son Chris. She was a lifetime member of the Cal Alumni Assoc., a member of the Young Ladies Institute and Good Shepherd Parish. She was proud of her Italian heritage and the fact that all of her five grandchildren graduated from Cal.
She is preceded in death by her husband; survived by her daughter, Andrea Campos and son-in-law Dr. David Campos of Pittsburg; son Chris Lanzafame and daughter-in-law Nancy Lanzafame of Pittsburg; her grandchildren Philip Campos, Robert Lanzafame, Jeffrey Lanzafame, Christopher Lanzafame and Elizabeth Campos; her in-laws Ed and Camilla Magnoli; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 pm followed by a vigil service at 7pm at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 14. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 15, at 10 am at Church of the Good Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
