Gary Francis
Duarte Sr.
Aug 15, 1943 — Dec 16, 2025
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Gary Francis Duarte Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Gary passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in Antioch, California, surrounded by his family. He was 82 years old.
Gary was born on August 15, 1943, in San Francisco, California, to Beatrice Maldonado and Manuel Duarte. He was raised in Pittsburg, California, and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1962. Soon after high school, he met the love of his life, Emily. They were married in 1964 and settled in Antioch, where they raised three children. Family meant everything to Gary, and he was always proud of the home and memories they built together.
Gary worked for 31 years at USS-Posco in Pittsburg. After retiring, he spent several years working for the City of Pittsburg, staying connected to the community he grew up in.
Retirement also gave Gary the chance to focus on his passion for oil painting. He became active in the local art community, earning first place awards and Best of Show honors, and displaying his work in several solo shows. His paintings became a big part of who he was and something his family will always treasure.
Gary also enjoyed traveling whenever he could. Whether it was a family trip or a short getaway, he loved seeing new places and creating memories with the people he loved.
Gary is survived by his children: Sandra, Carolyn, and Gary Jr. He is also survived by his mother, Beatrice Maldonado, and his siblings Constance, Vicky, Phillip and Alex as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He leaves behind five grandchildren he loved dearly: Anthony (Kasey), Dominic, Lauren, Gianna (Nathan), and Matthew. They brought him great joy and pride.
Gary will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. His humor, his love of art, and the time he shared with his family will always be remembered.
Memorial service will be held Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Pittsburg Yacht Club
