George John Harris, born August 18, 1930, in Pittsburg, California, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2021, in Oakley at the age of 91. He was born to Greek and Italian immigrant parents, Thomas and Josephine Harris (Natoli). He was a native and lifelong resident of Pittsburg. At the approximate age of 12, George worked at the packing houses on the waterfront, washing fishermen's nets and cleaning fish. He attended schools in Pittsburg and went to work at a young age to help support his family. Through the years, he worked as a truck driver, taxi driver, and carpenter for A.D. Seeno.

George joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 at the age of 18. After boot camp, he spent 15 months on the destroyer U. S. S. Hollister. He was eventually called back to serve in Japan, and completed his service in 1952.  In 1951, he married his everlasting love, RoseAnn Harris (Aiello), they had 4 children. They made beautiful lifelong memories with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their home was a gathering place for family and friends, where family tradition was a staple at every occasion, filled with love and laughter.

In 1966 he founded Rainbow Homes Inc. and worked alongside his brothers, eventually becoming the sole owner and retiring in 2011. While managing Rainbow Homes Inc., he was involved in the day to day City of Pittsburg politics, serving on the Model Cities Commission, Housing Authority, Planning Commission, and organized fundraisers, supporting improvements at St. Peter Martyr Parochial School. For 2 decades, George was the head chef at the team barbeque fundraisers for Pittsburg High School Football, a contributor and solicitor of funds for the team, office holder in the Booster Club, and Chief Volunteer for many of the functions and activities so important to a successful program. He supported the Pittsburg High School Marching Band and was one of the founders of the Football Hall of Fame Committee. George took pride in projects such as the building of the Press Box and helping with improvements of the new stadium field and sprinkler system at Pittsburg High School. His love and pride for his community inspired him to be very active, donating his time to many other civic and fraternal organizations in the City of Pittsburg and throughout the Bay Area.

George was a former member of the St. Peter Martyr Church and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg; he was also very active contributing his efforts at both parishes. He enjoyed cooking, baking, watching old classic westerns, listening to music, dancing, and gathering with family and friends for the holidays and for any occasion, but he was most passionate about creating lasting memories in Aptos for 25 years.

George was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, godfather, and friend. His surviving children are Jolyn Harris, Tom Harris (Sheila), Shelly Carpino (Dino), and Kerri Harris-Gay (Bill), his grandchildren Jackie Martinez (Jorge), Rachael Harris, Thomas Carpino (Paige), Gianna Carpino, Billy Gay III (Rachel), Taylor Gay, his great-grandchildren Julian Martinez, Amelia Carpino, Nicholas Gay, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

George was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, RoseAnn Harris, his parents Thomas and Josephine Harris, his brothers Tony (Red) Harris, Salvatore, Joe and Bert Sechiatano, sister Mary Sechiatano, and nephew Joey Sechiatano.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 10-11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy at Church of the Good Shepherd at 12:00pm. Committal services at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch.
