On the afternoon of July 29, 2016, Godie F. Mortola passed away suddenly, due to complications from a brief illness. Godie was visited and comforted by family members at the Cypress Meadows Assisted Living Facility in Antioch, CA at the time of his passing. Godie was 79 years old.
Godie was born in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, and earned a degree in civil engineering from the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT). He worked at the Veterans Memorial Hospital near Manila, where he met the love of his life, Maria Elfa. They married and moved to New York City in 1972. Trying their luck out west, they first moved to Long Beach, CA in 1978, then deciding to finally settle in Pittsburg for the long term in the early 1980's. Godie was an avid sports fan, and a die-hard supporter of the Golden State Warriors. He also loved fishing and working in his garden. An engineer at heart, he could fix practically anything that was broken--- much to the delight of his children and grandchildren.
Godie is survived by his loving wife, Maria Elfa; devoted children Jonathan Mortola of Pittsburg, Joanne Fausto of Concord and Jenilee Mortola of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by twin grandchildren, Ava and Nico Fausto, of Concord, CA. He also leaves behind a sister, Irene, and two brothers, Loreto and Adolfo, who live in the Philippines.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 4-8pm, with a vigil at 6:30pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10am at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services following at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette.
