Grace Ann Darone of Pittsburg, CA, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2022, at the tender age of 98. Grace was born August 26, 1923, to Ignazio and Petrina Canepa. Growing up in Pittsburg, Grace attended Pittsburg High School, worked at the canneries, and the jewelry counter at Woolworths.
Grace married Thomas J. Darone in 1948 and is survived by their four children: MaryAnn Darone Mayne (Bill), Vince Darone (Angela), Ned Darone (Debby), and Patty Darone Smart (Andy). Grace, otherwise known as "Nana", was adored by her seven grandchildren: Tommy (Jody), Aaron, Matt, Terra (Glen), Natalie, Patrina, Drew (Vanessa); one great grandchild, Josh; and everyone that knew her.
Grace was a homemaker for 72 years and an excellent cook. She passed down many Sicilian traditions, like making ravioli and traditional Sicilian cookies with her children and grandchildren every year for Christmas (her favorite holiday). Countless family and friends would come over each year to learn how to make and roll her homemade ravioli and Sicilian cookies. Her Sicilian pizza was the best and no one can duplicate it, despite many attempts. In addition to cooking, Grace loved playing cards with family and friends, shopping, taking trips to Reno, Tahoe, Vegas, and visiting any casino.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Darone; her parents Ignazio and Petrina Canepa; her brothers, Frank and Joe Canepa; and sister, Rose Castillo.
