Gregory Lynn Ricks was born in San Diego, California, on March 10, 1954, to his parents Calvin Ricks and Loretta Ingram. He spent his childhood developing a love for Western films and reading. Gregory was known for his curiosity and drive, qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.

Gregory attended the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated in 1978 with a degree in Economics. During his time at UC Berkeley, he was a proud member of the Golden Bears football team and developed a deep love for the university. It was also at UC Berkeley where Gregory met Patricia Davis, the love of his life. Their connection began during their time as students and flourished into 44 years of marriage. After college, Gregory went to work for Social Security Administration in Richmond, California, as a Benefit Authorizer and rose to the position of Acting Deputy Area Director of the Bay Area. After 37 years, he retired and went to work for the University of California Office of the President, where he spent nearly ten years as the Retirement Administration Service Center Manager.

Gregory cherished his family above all else and found immense joy in spending time with his wife and daughter, Paige Ricks. He was a constant source of wisdom and support for those around him, always offering a kind word or helping hand. His quiet strength and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Patricia Ricks; one daughter, Paige Ricks; two sisters, Felise Ingram and Cim Williams; stepfather, Alvie Tucker; two sisters-in law, Jeanette Davis and Ann Campbell; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Davis and Don Davis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
