Herbert Lester Roberts' Obituary
Herbert Lester Roberts went to be with the Lord, his Father on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the age of 86. He touched many lives with his kind, generous nature.
Herbert was born in Louisville, Illinois to Roy and Helen Roberts. He was the seventh born of twelve children in his family. He graduated from Alta High School in Alta, Iowa and attended a trade school on a scholarship from Lee and Edna Catteau. After serving in Korea in the U.S. Army, Herbert settled in Pittsburg where he began a 35 year career with Pacific Bell Telephone Company. It was while working at the telephone company that he met his bride to be, Carmen. After retirement, he worked for the Pittsburg Unified School District as an Audio-visual technician for 10 years.
Family was the greatest priority in Herbert's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen with whom they celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on August 30th; devoted children Gary Roberts, Frances Burge(Jim) and Jimmy (Roma) Roberts and adoring grandchildren Angela Roberts, Vincent (Katy) Roberts, Garrett Roberts, and Devany Roberts; his surviving sisters Tena Jones, Phyllis (Dennis) Guthrie, surviving brothers Guy and Luther Roberts and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Rolly, Clovis, Clifford, Ray, Doris, Darlene and Leonard.
He loved to tinker with short wave radios, watch his Golden State Warriors and attending all sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He even attended his grandson Garrett's baseball College World Series in Idaho in 2015.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial mass on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 10:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd.
