Our beloved Hortencia Medina, went to be with God peacefully, July 19, 2021, with her family by her side.  She was born to Gilberto and Mercedes Martinez, January 11, 1939 in Purepero, Michoacán, Mexico.

Hortencia or "Tencho" as we all lovingly refer to her, married Edmundo Medina in 1957.  They had 5 children: Lourdes (Adan), Beatriz (Armando), Gerardo (Socorro), Joaquin, and Armando (Alma).  The  second of 12 children, Tencho, grew up in Purepero, where she met her husband Edmundo and Married in 1957. Tencho raised her children in Purepero.  Later in life moved to Wilmington, California with her husband Edmundo. In Wilmington she lived close to her daughters Lourdes and family, Beatriz and family, Gerardo and Family, and Armando and Family.  In 1990 after a short illness Edmundo her loving husband went to be with God.  In 1990 Tencho moved to Pittsburg, CA where she made her home with her dear sister Teresa, Rodolfo (husband), and nephew Rodolfo Jr "Rudy", nieces Yanitzia, Judith(Pablo), Pablo Jr., Anthony, Cynthia, Aylani, Darrien, and family.  Tencho was a very happy person.  Always smiling.  She loved listening to music and was well known for her whistling which is an attribute of the positive and happy state of mind she commonly found herself in and shared with us all.  When she woke up in the morning after her morning prayers as she came down stairs she would whistle as she came to join us.  During her younger years she loved to sew and design her own clothes.  She enjoyed cooking and being around all her family and friends.  Tencho made friends everywhere she went.  She loved to meet people. Tencho had a unique charisma with all children.  All children loved her very much. She had a special place in her heart for all her family, nieces, and nephews.  She enjoyed visiting her children and spending time with grand-children and great-grandchildren.

Tencho loved to watch the mass of Father Arturo Cornejo on youtube online.  She enjoyed visiting her children and visiting the mission at San Juan Bautista, loved going to the beach with her grand-daughters, and spending time with all of her family. Tencho loved and enjoyed being with her brothers and sisters very much.  She also loved visiting her beloved hometown of Purepero, Michoacán Mexico with her family and friends in her home located in a special place which is dear to the hearts of all of the family and friends known as La Calle Ancha where they have many fond memories.

Tencho is survived by her 3 children Lourdes (Adan), Beatriz (Armando) and Armando (Alma).  She is also survived by 13 grand-children, Martha (Pedro), Janet (Jose), Natalie (Nacho), Erika (Rolando), Jorge, Victor (Monica), Marysol, Diana(Gerardo), Karen(Javier), Gerardo, Armando(Leah), Adrian, and Andres, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-children.  She is also survived by her sisters Marta (Jose), and Teresa (Rodolfo), her brothers Fidel (Rosa), Raul (Socorro), Hector (Adela), and Jose (Ema) as well as many other family members who she loves and also love her very much including many nieces and nephews.

Tencho was preceded in death by her husband Edmundo Medina in 1990, her beloved infant child Joaquin, her loving son Gerardo Medina in 2007, her brother Gilberto, Sister Berta and her parents Gilberto and Mercedes Martinez all of whom she loved very much and are now celebrating her homecoming.

Tencho has a large extended family and everyone who met her became her friend.  Tencho is loved so much and will be dearly missed.  The family is grateful with God for having her in our lives and teaching us so many great things and filling us with so much love.

A Rosary Service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 4 p.m. at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, Inc.  Viewing will be from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Mass will be on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at San Pedro Martyr, 740 Black Diamond Street, Pittsburg, CA 94565.

Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2200 East 18 ^th Street, Antioch, CA 94509.

Nuestra amada Hortencia Medina fue llamada a la presencia de Dios pacíficamente el 19 de julio del 2021 rodeada de su familia.  Hija de Gilberto y Mercedes Martinez, Hortencia nació un 11 de enero de 1939 en Purepero, Michoacán, México.

Hortencia o "Tencho" como la llamamos cariñosamente todos, se casó con Edmundo Medina en el año 1957 y tuvieron 5 hijos: Lourdes (Adan), Beatriz (Armando), Gerardo (Socorro), Joaquin, y Armando (Alma). Tencho, la segunda de 12 hijos e hijas, creció en Purepero, donde conoció a su esposo Edmundo. Tencho crió a sus hijos en Purepero. Varios años después se mudó a Wilmington, California con su esposo Edmundo. En Wilmington vivía cerca de sus hijas Lourdes y su familia, Beatriz y su familia, Gerardo y su familia, y Armando y su familia. En 1990, después de una breve enfermedad, Edmundo, su amado esposo, fue llamado a la presencia de Dios. Tencho se mudó a Pittsburg, CA, en el año 1990 donde estableció su hogar con su querida hermana Teresa, Rodolfo (esposo) y su sobrino Rodolfo Jr. " Rudy",  y sobrinas Yanitzia, Judith (Pablo), Pablo Jr., Anthony, Cynthia, Aylani, Darrien y familia. Tencho se puede describir como una persona muy Alegre. Siempre con una sonrisa.  Le encantaba escuchar música y era bien conocida por sus silbidos, que es un atributo del estado de ánimo tan positivo y alegre en el que comúnmente se encontraba y compartía con todos nosotros. Cuando se despertaba por la mañana, después de sus oraciones de la mañana, mientras bajaba las escaleras, cantaba y silbaba cuando venía a unirse a nosotros. Durante su juventud le encantaba la costura y diseñar su propia ropa. Disfrutaba cocinar y estar con toda su familia y amigos. Tencho hacía amistades en todos los lugares a los que iba. Le encantaba conocer gente. Tenia un carisma  muy especial - Todos los niños la quieren mucho y ella a ellos también. Tenía un lugar muy especial en su corazón para toda su familia, sobrinas y sobrinos.

A Tencho le encantaba ver la misa del Padre Arturo Cornejo en YouTube a través de la internet.  Disfrutaba visitar a sus hijos y visitar la misión en San Juan Bautista, le encantaba ir a la playa con sus nietas y pasar tiempo con sus nietos, bisnietos y toda la familia.

Tencho amaba y disfrutaba mucho estar con sus hermanos y hermanas. También disfrutaba mucho sus visitas a su pueblo querido Purepero, Michoacán México con su familia y amigos en su casa ubicada en un lugar muy especial que es querido y se encuentra en los corazones de toda la familia y amigos conocido como La Calle Ancha, donde provienen muchos bonitos recuerdos.

A Tencho le sobreviven sus 3 hijos Lourdes (Adan), Beatriz (Armando) y Armando (Alma). También le sobreviven 13 nietos, Martha (Pedro), Janet (Jose), Natalie (Nacho), Erika (Rolando), Jorge, Victor (Monica), Marysol, Diana (Gerardo), Karen (Javier), Gerardo, Armando (Leah), Adrian y Andres,  Veintidós bisnietos y Dos tataranietos.

También le sobreviven sus hermanas Marta (José) y Teresa (Rodolfo), sus hermanos Fidel (Rosa), Raúl (Socorro), Héctor (Adela) y José (Ema), así como muchos otros miembros de la familia a quienes ama mucho y también la aman mucho incluyendo a muchas sobrinas y sobrinos.

Tencho es precedida por miembros de la familia que se le adelantaron y ya están con Dios incluyendo su esposo Edmundo Medina (1990), hijito Joaquin,  su hijo Gerardo Medina (2007), su hermano Gilberto, su hermana Berta y sus padres Gilberto y Mercedes Martínez, a quienes amaba mucho y ahora están celebrando su regreso a casa.

Tencho tiene una gran familia extendida y todos los que la conocieron se convirtieron en sus amistades. Tencho es muy querida y será extrañada profundamente. La familia está agradecida con Dios por tenerla en nuestras vidas y por enseñarnos tantas cosas maravillosas y llenarnos de tanto amor.

Se llevará a cabo El Santo Rosario el miércoles 4 de agosto del 2021 a las 4 p.m. en Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, Inc. La visitación será a partir de las 3 p.m. hasta las 6 p.m.

La misa será el jueves 5 de agosto del 2021 a las 11:00 a.m. en San Pedro Martyr, 740 Black Diamond Street, Pittsburg, CA 94565.

En seguida nos iremos al cementerio Holy Cross Cemetery, 2200 East 18th Street, Antioch, CA 94509.
