Idell Mark (nee Clark) made her transition the afternoon of October 7, 2024, after a very sudden decline in her health. She was surrounded by her family and close friend Mary Castro. Idell Mark, daughter of Lillie L. Calice (nee Clark) and stepdaughter to Emmanuel Calice, was born in Minden, Louisiana on July 23, 1923. She grew up in Minden with her brother Elroy. Idell was educated in Minden, Louisiana public schools. She later relocated to San Francisco, California in the 1940s to join her family. It was there that she met and married Andrew Mark.

Idell's favorite past time was watching soap operas and sports on TV, reading the newspaper, watching old classic movies, and cooking her famous chili beans and cornbread. She attended church at New Testament Baptist church in Sacramento, California. Idell gave her life over to Christ in 2005 and was baptized. Idell will be remembered as a thoughtful soul who touched many lives and brought happiness. She was a kind, caring mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted friend. She provided her children and grandchildren with all of the love, comfort, hospitality, and stability a family could ask for. Idell was the head of our family and the link to our past.

Idell was preceded in death by her mother Lillie L. Calice and stepdad Emmanuel Calice, her brother Elroy Gilbert, her husband Andrew Mark, two of her sons, Otis and Leroy Mitchell, grandsons Terence Simien Sr., Kenneth Hamilton, and Leon Clark Jr., and her granddaughter Tiana Clark. She is survived by five of her children; Leon Clark (Yvonne), Nescie Bagwell (Clayton), Charles Hamilton (Dorothy), Josie Hills, Mary Goodwin (Tony) and a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
