Dr. James I Scarborough passed away peacefully surrounded by family, friends, and his beloved dog Roxy.
James was born in Stanaford, West Virginia and resided with his family in the town of Piney View. He graduated from Shady Spring High School. To quote hi, "I graduated on a Friday night and went to work in the coal mines Monday morning." Baseball was his passion. He played catcher in the American Legion Baseball Leagues. He continued to work in the coal mines when an opportunity to play baseball for a college that badly needed a catcher arose and he enrolled at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. He subsequently pursued a medical career graduating from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and the University of California with a medical doctorate in Neurosurgery. He practiced in Long Beach, California then relocated to Walnut Creek and joined Bay Area Neurosurgery with his classmate and best friend Dr. William E. Mathews.
James was a man of many interests. For several years, he resided in Chino, California where he owned and operated with his parents Suntan Farms where he breeded, raised and sometimes operated on thoroughbred race horses. He was also the builder and owner of Kar King Wrecking Yard in Ontario, California
James was quite the golfer and was a former member of Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, California and The Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert where he and his wife enjoyed several years of desert living.
An avid baseball fan, he was a 42 year season ticket holder with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He prided himself on "having the best seats in the house," One of the highlights of hyis life was attending the 2002 World Series in Anaheim with his son and grandsons.
James is survived by his devoted wife Stella Tiscareno. They met 30 years ago at the former Los Medanos Hospital and enjoyed a wonderful life traveling and living life to the fullest. Also survived by his daughter Karen Scarborough of Seal Beach, California, sisters Carnes Barrett of Rochester, New York, Frances(Judy) Kozar of Macedon New York, Nancy Sue DeAndre of Texas, and brother and sister in law Mark and Carol Scarborough of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Also survived by his daughter in law Penny Scarborough and 3 grandchildren Michael, Jason and Cady Scarborough of Corona, Calif. Preceded in death by parents Irsel and Garnet Scarborough, brother Kent Scarborough and son James Richmond Scarborough.
Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to a memorial service Wednesday Nov 4, 2015at 12:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
