James Edwin Swank's Obituary
James Edwin Swank, a great man of God and family, went to his Heavenly Home on July 19th with his wife and children around him. He touched many lives with his kind and gentle spirit, faithfulness and love for all..
James was born in Philadelphia, PA. and was transferred to California during his five years in the U.S. Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard James was involved in search and rescue where many lives were saved. After five years he became employed by P.G.&E and worked for 27 years as an instrument repairman at the Pittsburg and Antioch steam plants. James retired in 1985. Over the years James, an ordained Deacon in the Southern Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and led a weekly Bible Study at the Marsh Creek Detention Center known as The Farm. One of his favorite portions of Scripture was the 23rd Psalm. For the past two decades James enjoyed assisting with various duties at his church, First Baptist Church of Pacheco. He especially enjoyed cutting grass with his lawn mowing tractor. Wherever he went he never failed to invite others to visit his church. James, a proud member of the West Pittsburg/Bay Point community enjoyed taking various pleasure trips with his wife, helping her with her antique business and working in his backyard garden where many of his fruits and vegetables won blue ribbons at the County Fair. A great enjoyment of his was spending time with his grandchildren and their families.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years and love of his life, Irene Swank (Hickin), his son Glenn Swank and wife Stacy of Paso Robles, his daughter Dayna Culpepper and husband Ricky of Weiser, Idaho, and his son Kendall Swank of Concord and brother David Swank and wife Yoshin of New Jersey. Surviving also are 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His kind and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew
him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, August 1, 2022, from 2:30pm to 6:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel 2295 Railroad Ave., Pittsburg, Ca.
