Jerry Roger Skinner passed away on Saturday March 30 after an arduous battle with cancer.  He was a great man with a positive spirit and contagious smile.  He touched many lives and often put the wishes of others before his. That is the man he was and how he will always be remembered.

Jerry was born in Barron, Wisconsin and graduated from Hudson Bay High School in Vancouver, WA in 1959.  He spent 8 years in the US Army from January 25, 1960 to May 15, 1968. During his time of service he attended United States Army Aviation School and Sikorsky Service School, earning numerous certifications.  He also survived 2 tours in Vietnam,the second of which he selflessly volunteered for.During these 2 tours he earned his stripes as STAFF SERGEANT E6 in the 1 ^st Air Calvary Division.  Jerry also earned a number of medals during his 8 years of service: BRONZE STAR MEDAL; AIR MEDAL with letter "V" device with numeral 3;  GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL;  VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL;  REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM CAMPAIGN RIBBON W/DEVICE (1960);  EXPERT BADGE with Rifle Bar;  ARMY AVIATION – AIRCRAFT CREWMAN BADGE;  ARMY AVIATION – MASTER AIRCRAFT CREWMAN BADGE.  There were countless acts of heroism displayed by Jerry during his 2 tours in Vietnam, often volunteering for missions into hostile territory that his unit was not even assigned to, eager to make sure that he had his brothers' back.  He was definitely a "bad ass"!   After an honorable discharge from the Army, Jerry arrived in Pittsburg, CA in May of 1968. He took a position at Duncan's Mobile, working as a mechanic for 3 years.  It was also at Duncan's Mobile where he met the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Cathleen Edwards.  In 1971 he took a position at Glass Containers where he retired as a mechanic after 26 years.  In 1997 he ended his 37 years of hard work and dedication, retiring as a custodian with Pittsburg Unified School District.  Jerry enjoyed playing poker with his buddies, fishing and spending time with his wife, family and friends.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; son Jay (Annette), grandchildren Anthony, Hayden, Samantha and Catalina, and great granddaughter Tatum.  He is also survived by his Brothers Jim (Sandy), Joe (Leslie) and preceded in death by brother John, along with extended family and many friends who were not related, but considered family.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 3:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel.
