Jess J. Hernandez, 83 of Pittsburg, CA died peacefully at home on Monday, December 20, 2021. Jess was born in Guanajuato, Mexico December 11, 1938 to the late Petra Hernandez and his late brother Robert Hernandez.
Jess graduated from Pittsburg Senior High School in 1958. In 1964 he graduated as a Journeyman for auto repair and paint at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA he worked his professional life as an Auto Body and Paint repairman. He opened his owned business as Hernandez body shop located 291 Central Ave in 1971 as his business grew he decided in 1981 to relocate at 107 Bliss Ave as Jess Hernandez Auto Body & Towing in Pittsburg and retiring after 50 years in business. Jess liked to spend his free time with family, loved to go camping, fishing, often taking weekend trips to different places, and was always ready for a trip to the casinos. Jess was known throughout the community for his larger-than-life presence, yet humble demeanor. He was a former active member of the Pittsburg Elks Lodge #1474, Pittsburg Moose Lodge, and a frequent visitor at the Antioch VFW. His family, home, and community are forever held in his heart.
Jess is survived by his wife Mary Guevara Hernandez from southern California, after 63 years of marriage; his children Belinda Hernandez-Russo, Jessie Hernandez (deceased), and Mario Hernandez. His grandchildren are Jason Palomino, Jessica Palomino, Zackary Hernandez, Domynik Hernandez, & Jessie Hernandez Jr., his great-grandchildren; Alec Hernandez, Ethan Hernandez, Jacob Aguilar, Gabriella Aguilar, & Adam Hernandez. He is also survived by his brother Joe Hernandez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 9:30am – 11:30am at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy following at Church of the Good Shepherd at 12:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, Pittsburg, CA.
