Obituary

Jess J. Segovia, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 19th at home, surrounded by family & friends.

Jess was born on August 1st, 1935, in Martinez California, to Jesus G. Segovia & Evelyn Segovia. He was the oldest of three children, his sister Virginia Romero & John Segovia followed. He was proud to be raised in Pittsburg where he lived his whole life. Jess was married to Consuelo Mesa on July 20th, 1958. They were married for 63 years and were blessed with three children, Lisa, Leticia & Joseph.

He attended Pittsburg High School class of 1953. He held previous jobs starting as a shoeshiner and sold newspapers to the soldiers in Camp Stoneman. He joined The Army National Guard in 1955-1965 as a Corporal and was working temporarily for US Steel Mill (wire & nail) dept. He started his own Janitorial service, while working at the Lafayette school district as a gardener until he got the call from LMC hiring him as a Gardener II in 1974 for a permanent position. This started his career with Contra Costa Community College District, he transferred from LMC in 1986 and took the position of Senior Gardener at CCC.  Later that year he transferred to DVC and became the Lead Gardener and worked there until 1999 when he retired after 25 years of service.

He was an original member of the Latin American Men's club in Pittsburg as an officer of Sgt-at -Arms. He enjoyed all their activities at the local fair and dances they held. He enjoyed vacationing with his family to Mexico to visit friends, going to Disneyland and LA to see his favorite Mariachi group Los Camperos. He vacationed with his family to his Wild R Ranch & R-Ranch in the Sequoias for many years and went to Mazatlán with Consuelo for their 25th anniversary. He spent his retirement years vacationing and going to casinos to gamble and to play bingo, and with family & cousins to Lake Tahoe & Reno. He enjoyed vacations with his daughters Lisa & Leticia and her friend Sylvia Russo to Palm Springs (the lazy river) Napa (concerts), Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and Hawaii. He was a founding member of the Church of Good Shepherd in Pittsburg where he attended Church and events with his family and friends. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #7164 at Our Lady Queen of the World Church in Bay Point. He attended A's games & helped out at Bingo, Breakfast & the Crab feeds and all of the Holiday functions they held. He became a member of the 50 Plus Club of Pittsburg and enjoyed the lunches, fishing at Contra Loma Regional Park, Tai Chi Cha, Movies, watching his daughter, Leticia, bowling in the league and attended many of the events at the Senior center. His favorite holiday was Halloween where he always had 2 costumes to change into and pass out candy.

He is survived by his daughters Lisa Segovia and Leticia Rodrigues (Joey), his son Joseph Segovia and Grandson Yinsakia Stanton. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Romero, her children Evelyn Romero-Porter (Ron), Emily Romero, Vincent (Nancy) Romero, and Linda Meileur and many grand nieces and nephews.

His nieces Deborah (George) Lerek, Antoinette (Enrique) Ruiz, Monica (Jose) Flores, Angelica Ayala, Adriana Ayala, nephew Javier (Karen) Ayala, grand nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Consuelo Segovia, his parents, Jesus G and Evelyn Segovia, brother John Segovia and brother-in-law Fernando Romero, niece Felicia Gonzalez, sisters-in-law, Elena (Antonio) Ruiz, Anita (Javier) Ayala and many aunts, uncles & cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm with a rosary at 4:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral liturgy Friday September 8, 2023, at 11:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services following at Holy Cross cemetery in Antioch.
