The Lord gently guided Joann Home surrounded by her devoted family. A lifelong resident of Pittsburg, Ca., she was deeply loved by all who were blessed with her friendship.

She shared many wonderful stories of her early years in Pittsburg. Her fondest memories were of growing up downtown on East 12th Street. Strolling with her parents and sister to catch a movie, shop or attend one a local event. She had vivid memories of the WW11 years. Recalling the young soldiers from Camp Stoneman marching down Harbor St., to the Pittsburg Marina area, an embarkation point for those called to war. She felt fortunate to be part of the what many consider "Greatest Generation".

After graduating from Pittsburg High School Joann went on to attend University of California, Berkeley. Upon graduating with Honors in English, she soon embraced the next chapter of her life, marrying William "Bill" Buchanan in 1952. During the early years of their marriage, Bill was stationed in Korea. She took a job in the Lab at Dow Chemical in town.

Upon Bill's return, a young family soon became a welcome reality. It wasn't long before the family moved to the early homestead of Buchanan Ranch in 1962. A new life of cattle ranching, lovingly raising four rambunctious children - she could match most anyone's physical, intellectual and emotional strength! She had a tremendous love for all animals - and they loved her! Along with all the home goings-on, Joann was ever-present in assisting local causes and consistently involved in her children's school and other activities.

When the dinner bell rang, a large round table soon filled with kids and any friends who might stop in for a visit. The meals were always delicious and we all loved the banter and stories of the day that were highlighted by a great deal of laughter. She was an extraordinarily talented, compassionate and funny woman. The family home was a safe haven for so many friends and family.

All who knew her were in the finest presence of love, energy, intelligence and wit that life has to offer. Saying she will be missed from our lives is an understatement. Embracing Joann's memory are her four children - Doug Buchanan, Kevin Buchanan (Sharon), Don Buchanan (Joy) and Laurie Buchanan Pease (Dan), She deeply loved all of her 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Joann are her four nephews, Glen, Paul, Wayne and Mark and many family and friends.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Bernice Killeen, husband, Bill Buchanan, sister Joyce Killeen Czellecz and beloved daughter-in-law, Lynn O'Niell Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers, she would be honored by contributions to Hospice of the East Bay, Cal Farley's Boys Town or the Let Them Hear Foundation.
