With hearts filled with both profound sorrow and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Joaquín González Reyes, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, faithful servant of God, and a man whose life exemplified the timeless values of hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering faith.

Joaquín was born on August 16, 1940, in the beautiful town of Acatlán de Juárez, Jalisco, Mexico, to Guillermo González and Ramona Reyes. He was the thirteenth child born into a family of thirteen children, four of whom the Lord called home in infancy. Joaquín grew up alongside his eight surviving brothers and sisters: Cruz, Piedad, Manuel, Teodosio, Victor, Luis, Rosendo, and Pedro—all of whom have preceded him in death and now joyfully welcome him home.

As a young boy in Acatlán de Juárez, Joaquín showed promise and dedication, attending Escuela Primaria Dr. Tranquilino Elizondo through the sixth grade before continuing his education at the Instituto PAL de Acatlán de Juárez. There, he earned a technical degree in administration, typing y shorting, demonstrating his commitment to learning and self-improvement. Despite his academic achievements, Joaquín's deep love for his parents and his desire to care for his father when he became ill led him to set aside his career and work in the fields from an early age. One of his first jobs was at the tequila factory "La Taverna" in Acatlán de Juárez, where he learned the value of honest labor and dedication.

At eighteen years old, driven by dreams of a better future, Joaquín made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States in 1958 through the Bracero Program. He worked tirelessly in the fields, picking cotton under the blazing Texas sun and working in agriculture in the fertile fields of California. For twelve years, he traveled back and forth between Mexico and the United States, never losing sight of his vision for a better tomorrow. In 1967, with hope in his heart and determination in his spirit, Joaquín permanently immigrated to the United States, carrying with him the dream of providing his future family with opportunities he had never known.

In 1971, Joaquín joined the Laborers Union Local 324, where he found steady work in construction, laying foundations not only for buildings but for his family's future. The following year, in 1972, after years of devoted courtship, Joaquín married the love of his life, Ana Bertha Ramos, in their cherished hometown of Acatlán de Juárez, Jalisco. Their love story blossomed even across borders, as Joaquín worked tirelessly in the United States, sending remittances home to support Ana Bertha while her immigration status was being resolved. God blessed Joaquín and Ana Bertha with four beautiful children. First came their precious daughter Veronica, followed by their first son, Joaquín, and then Jaime, who was already growing in Ana Bertha's womb when the family was finally reunited. In 1976, seven months pregnant with Jaime, Ana Bertha arrived in the United States as a permanent resident along with Veronica and Joaquín., and the family was joyfully united at last. Three years later, in 1979, their family was completed with the birth of their youngest child, Irene.

The González family put down deep roots in Pittsburg, California, where Joaquín became a member of the community. He developed a passion for bowling, joining a league in Antioch, and for soccer, playing on Sundays with his friends. His competitive spirit and joy for life were evident in everything he did. Through it all, Joaquín worked with unwavering dedication, always ensuring his family had everything they needed and more—he gave them the very best of himself.

In 1989, at the age of 49, Joaquín made what would become the most profound and transformative decision of his life. After four years of his beloved wife Ana Bertha's diligent prayers and gentle invitations to attend church with her, Joaquín experienced a powerful, personal encounter with Jesus Christ. In a moment of divine grace, he surrendered his heart, trusting Jesus as his personal Savior and Lord. The change in Joaquín was nothing short of miraculous—he was born again, and everyone who knew him could see the radiant transformation. He became a new creation, his life now fully devoted to following Christ.

For the remainder of his earthly journey, Joaquín lived as a faithful servant-leader in his local church. He was a founding member and devoted leader of the church La Palabra de Dios, serving faithfully alongside his spiritual fathers and founding pastors, César and Lucerito Morales, for many blessed years. His commitment to the Gospel and his love for God's people touched countless lives.

In 1997, at the age of 57, after 25 years of work in the union, Joaquín retired from the Laborers Union Local 324. His retirement marked the beginning of a new and cherished chapter in his life. He and Ana Bertha returned to live part-time in Mexico, dividing their time between their beloved Acatlán de Juárez and Pittsburg, California. This season allowed Joaquín to enjoy the fruits of his decades of hard work, reconnect with his roots, and savor precious time with family on both sides of the border.

Joaquín's heart overflowed with joy as he welcomed eight precious grandchildren into the world: Jaime Jr. (born in 1999, his first grandchild and the beginning of a new generation), followed by Joaquín, Eric, Juliana, Elena, Diego, Victor, and Analia. He delighted in each one, leaving them a legacy of faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. In his final years, as Joaquín courageously battled dementia, the depth of his and Ana Bertha's love was revealed in its most beautiful form. Ana Bertha, his devoted wife and partner of 53 years, became his tireless and sacrificial caregiver, faithfully remaining at his bedside, caring for him with the same tender devotion with which he had loved and provided for her throughout their marriage. Their love story, which began in Acatlán de Juárez and flourished across decades and borders, concluded with Ana Bertha's steadfast presence—a testament to the sacred vows they had made to one another and to the enduring power of true love.

Joaquín González Reyes lived 85 remarkable years, and though his physical presence will be profoundly missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was a man who crossed borders and overcame obstacles, who worked with his hands and loved with his whole heart, who found Jesus and never looked back. His legacy is one of faith, family, hard work, and humble service.

He is survived by: his beloved wife of 53 years, Ana Bertha González; his daughter Veronica González and her husband Emilio Heredia; his son Joaquín González Jr. and his wife Marisa; his son Jaime González and his wife Yesenia; his daughter Irene González and her husband Victor Hugo Trujillo; his eight beloved grandchildren: Jaime Jr., Joaquín, Eric, Juliana, Elena, Diego, Victor, and Analia; and a host of extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
