It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He passed away peacefully on Sept 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born 1938 in San Diego, California, the oldest of five siblings, to a US-born father and Yucatecan mother. Due to the war and his father's vocational interests, he grew up in various places around the US and Mexico, attending grammar schools in both Spanish and English.  Upon graduation from San Diego State University he spent a few months traveling in Mexico with a cousin before being drafted into the army in 1961. He was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco during which time he met and married his wife Margot.

After the army he began night law school at Golden Gate University, passed the California State Bar in 1967 and was hired by Contra Costa Legal Services Foundation.  By the end of the decade he and Margot had had their three children (John, Michael, Phillip) and were living in Pittsburg.  In 1971 he went into private practice and soon became a well-known public figure in the fight for social justice in the community.

Among his many accomplishments are:

- Dean and Law Professor at Lincoln Law School

- Professor at Diablo Valley College

- Trustee of Pittsburg Unified School District

- Co founder of Concerned Citizens of Pittsburg and led successful recall of Pittsburg City Council.

- Law Professor at San Francisco Law School

As well as a dedicated father and lawyer he had a passion for music, he learned as an adult to play the guitar and eventually formed part of "Los Fugitivos del Stress"

Family, friends and acquaintances are invited to a Celebration of Life which will be held in his honor on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 1-6 pm at the Pittsburg Youth Development Center, 1001 Stoneman Ave., Pittsburg. In lieu of flowers may we suggest a donation to Hospice East Bay, hospiceeastbay.org
