John Malcolm gently slipped away the morning of June 29, 2017, after a lengthy battle against Alzheimer's and C.O.P.D.
John was born in Dallas, Texas to Harry and Eunice Malcolm on November 4, 1932, he was the youngest of 10 surviving children. In 1952 John graduated from Adamson H.S. with scholarships to both Juilliard and Baylor University for singing. He was a fantastic tenor.
In 1954, John arrived in California following both his brother Larry and sister Marie to Martinez. He worked various jobs until the mid-1956. When he secured at Continental Can Co. John put in 37 years, at Continental splitting his time between the coil and press departments. During these years he was active in the steel workers union. Reaching heights of President of the local from the late 60's until 1973. He also served as grievance committee chairman until 1975, stepping down only after the death of his son Timothy, age 17.
John is survived by his sister Margaret Haas of Farmersville. TX. Five children: John Jr., (Jeannette), Carrie Jeha (Mike), Susan Reed (Tony), Pamela Cox (Bruce) and Elizabeth Ramirez (Dan). Ten grandchildren: Michelle Callie Malcolm-Looney, Carl Friedel, Jospeh Reed, DeAnna Preciado, Nicholas Narez, Jenna Narez, Kristopher Narez, Timothy Cox, Tiffany Cox, and Evelyn Harrell. A few great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and son Timothy.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 1:00pm both days at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Antioch.
