It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our father, Joseph V. Lucido who passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2021. Joseph shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his late wife, Joyce Ann Lucido, before her passing six months ago on October 22, 2020.
Joseph spent the majority of his life growing up in Pittsburg, CA surrounded by a large extended Italian family. Attending Pittsburg schools, Joseph enjoyed an active youth. He could often be found sneaking onto the Camp Stoneman Military Base or working in one of many of his father's restaurants located in downtown Pittsburg. He was an exceptional athlete and excelled in all sports including football, basketball and baseball. He served honorably in the Air Force and upon discharge, enrolled at and played football for Humboldt State University. Following his studies at Humboldt, Joseph met and married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Cogdell and, with her small son, Mark Tomlins they settled in Pittsburg. Together they had three more children, Cheryl, Theresa and Vincent. Early on, Joseph worked for the City of Pittsburg and later, Dow Chemical where he retired after over 30 years of service.
Joseph's life was filled with an incredible number of loyal friends and he always had a joke or story to tell. He enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, hunting, watching the 49ers play football, attending all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events, and hanging out with his family and friends. He was especially fond of his three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He loved to cook, with his specialty being his famous seafood and Cioppino on Christmas Eve. It is there where he earned the nickname "Chef-Boy-R-Dad." He also earned the nickname "Stealth Dad" for all the times he sneaked out to the many track and swim meets, baseball, football and softball games, watching his children and grandchildren with pride. He never missed a game or failed in his main job, Uber driver for the grandkids.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Lucido, parents Vincent and Theresa Lucido, his brother, Bernie Lucido and his step-son, Mark Tomlins. He is survived by his children Cheryl (Richard), Theresa (Alex) and Vincent, his grandchildren Alicia, Richard (Renata) and Marcus Martinez and one great grandchild, Kaiden Martinez. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen Bradley, Gary Lucido and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
