Josephine Salcido Orozco, loving Matriarch of a long time Pittsburg family, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 17, 2015. Josephine (Nena) born September 18, 1925 in La Union, New Mexico to Manuela Martinez Salcido and Luis Salcido. Predeceased by her loving husband Atanacio (Nacho) Orozco and son Victor.
Josephine met then married the love of her life Nacho (Honey) on January 27, 1946. Josephine was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, (known by her Grandchildren as Tita) Sister, Aunt, Mother-in-law and a friend to many. Nena danced Folklorico with a dance troop that was organized through her church, where she met the love of her life Nacho. She was active in the community, raising funds for scholarships for students at Pittsburg and Antioch High Schools as well as serving on the Guadalupana Society, Latin American Womens League, Catholic Daughters and John F. Kennedy Committee. She was involved in erecting the monument of John F. Kennedy at the County Fair Grounds in Antioch, and the construction of the Little Mission located at Pittsburg Small World Park. Josephine (Josie) opened her home to care for countless children in the Pittsburg community, including her grandchildren. Many enjoyed homemade tamales made with love from Josie.
Josephine is survived by her devoted children Sally (Ron), Robert, Caroline, Richard (Maria), Margaret (Roy), Mundi (Yolanda), Hector (Carolina) and Delia (Mark), sister Aurora Rocha, many adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Josephine is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Amalia, Roberto, Francisco, Feliciano and Guadalupe.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 5:30pm with a vigil at 6:30pm. Funeral liturgy Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 10:00am both days at Church of the Good Shepherd. Committal services to follow at 1:00pm at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, where she will be laid to rest forever with her Honey.
