Lydia
Escajeda
d. May 24, 2026
Lydia Mendoza Escajeda was born on April 4th, 1965 to Catherine Garcia Mendoza and Onesimo P. Mendoza. She was raised in Pittsburg, California, having graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1983 and attended classes at Los Medanos College. It was in Pittsburg where she met her husband, Alex Escajeda. They were married on September 28th, 1991 at St. Peter Martyr Church, and had been together for over thirty-four years. Together they raised a family of three children. Lydia was a daughter who cherished her parents, taking care of them through the years. She was a devoted and dedicated wife. She was a very nurturing and loving mother who would do anything and everything for the sake of her kids.
Lydia was a one-of-a-kind-person. She was the best of both her parents' personalities: she was selfless and compassionate like her mother, as well as the funniest person in the room like her father. Lydia would drop whatever she was doing if it meant helping out someone she loved. She always thought of others and made sure to take care of everyone around her. Lydia was also the life of the party. She was tremendously funny and had a way of making everyone laugh with her jokes or bits. Lydia knew how to talk to people, always knowing the right thing to say to make others feel seen or remembered. She always made new friends easily, turning strangers she just met into someone who felt they could share their life story with her. Lydia enjoyed traveling to her favorite places: Yosemite, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. She loved spending time with her loved ones, and most of all, taking every opportunity she could just to be with them.
O n May 24th, 2026, Lydia passed away unexpectedly due to complications from a pneumonia infection. She was visited by so many of her family members during her hospital stay, showing how truly loved she was by everyone. During her final day on earth, she was surrounded by her loving children, her daughter-in-laws, and husband.
Lydia is survived by her husband Alex, her 3 kids, and their spouses; Alexander Escajeda Jr., Gabriela Jauregui Escajeda, Matthew David Escajeda, Celeste Jasmin Salazar, and Jennifer Nicole Escajeda.
